The ütőgardon (beat cello) or gardon, plays an important role in the accompaniment in certain regions. The instrument is carved out of one single piece of wood with a top blade glued on it.
The strings are made of gut and all tuned in a same tone (D). A wooden stick beats the rhythm, and the pulling back of a thin string provides the afterbeat.
