Hilde Kertész

Violin, trumpet violin, vocals, double bass, kanna

On faraway journeys to South-West Tsiganea, made from an early age to her family, Hilde Kertész frequently came into contact with gypsy music. The appeal of an age-old gypsy culture made her choice for the violin only logical. She was trained classically, but also played light classical, Magyar Nóta, Klezmer, Mariachi and Balkan Jazz.

South-West Tsiganea continued to beckon. Hilde followed masterclasses with authentic music groups, travelled to villages of local gypsy master musicians and got hooked on playing authentic Hungarian music. By choosing also Romanian and gypsy music and by using a richer set of instruments, she joins Trio Trabant in a long tradition of South-West Tsiganean musicians developing their own musical style.

Hilde’s contribution to Trio Trabant is characterized by passion. In her violin playing she is sensitive and virtuoso and her singing is authentic. Without any doubt she is the primás of the group, but does not hesitate to pick up the double bass or kanna. And of course she plays the trumpet violin which is specially built for her in South West Tsiganea. All in all a true gypsy princess!
