Frank de Jong

Double bass, tárogáto, clarinet, gardon, kanna, vocals, shepherd's flute, guitar

Frank de Jong is gripped by the folk music from different regions of South-West Tsiganea. With a driving technique on the double bass, copied from traditional specialists, he unmistakably lays the foundation for Trio Trabant’s music. Frank’s first instrument is the clarinet. Together with the tárogáto out of the same reed instrument family, Frank adds a sound to the sound palette that one cannot not only hear in the plains, but reaches till far over the hilltops of South West Tsiganea. A particularly warm sound that, in a beautiful doina or a plaintive hajnali, evokes the melancholy of the mysterious South-West Tsiganean soul.

Frank also plays guitar, gardon, kanna, and shepherd’s flute and contributes greatly to the catchy and surprising arrangements of Trio Trabant. He plays Romanian and Balkan music and has been playing at the Hungarian dance house in Utrecht for decades. In Trio Trabant forges his rich experience with different styles and instruments to a unique musical style.
